A beautiful Othoman Music Evening in two parts: In the first part of this evening Tristan Driessens' students will play an end of year program, to celebrate the results of their work. The students are of Turkish, Greek, Italian and Belgian(!) origin, and they study the Turkish ûd in all its dimensions at the Brussels Seyir Academy. In the second part, a concert will take place with two masters of Turkish music, NECATI ÇELIK on ûd and LEVENT YILDIRIM on percussion. Master NECATI ÇELIK distinguishes himself as an undeniable virtuosic ud player, who handles his instrument with a most subtle and complex technique. He profoundly originates from the modal Ottoman music tradition based on maqams, and therefore is a first rate representative of the ud as a classical Turkish instrument. Being a purist, he refuses to allow for western influences, and keeps away from the numerous trends of musical eclecticism that exist nowadays. His improvisations, being as authentic as they are expressive, take us back to a deep and profoundly felt music tradition. Levent Yildirim has taken his place in the world of darbuka as a phenomenon. Using the tabla technique he adopted to darbuka along with combining the left hand finger technique of his master Misirli Ahmet, has provided a unique technique that we have not seen up until now. Levent began to play darbuka at the age of 16 and he was influenced by his brother and master 'MISIRLI AHMET'. Levent started his first musical journey in Turkey which was soon extended to Europe, Middle East and Latin America. The long improvisation ability he showed during his concerts won the admiration of both the musicians and the audiences. http://tristandriessens.com/lessons/#1450447762421-aebe1b20-97d3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXJFkbj2XQc&list=PLEm7E2kiTDT1FwhiFRkF3-4LZNDEm57Tp http://www.turkishculture.org/whoiswho/necati-celik-3696.htm https://www.facebook.com/leventyildirimofficial/?fref=ts Art Base, Sunday 28/5/17 19h, 12,50E ( reduced 7E), 29 rue des Sables Zandstraat, 1000 Bruxelles.
